Gypsy and Traveller
NAVO recognized the need for a Countywide Gypsy and Traveller Liaison Officer to take the lead in developing improved relationships between Gypsy and Traveller communities, local agencies and the wider community and this is the main purpose of the role.
Key roles of the Liaison Officer are to;-
- work with key agencies to ensure that services take account of the needs of Gypsies and Travellers and are fully accessible with better joined up partnership working to the benefit of the community.
- enhance community cohesion, promote equality, promote rights and responsibilities, and to raise cultural awareness of Gypsy and Traveller communities and lifestyles.
- obtain agreement to, and adoption of, a Code of Practice on unauthorized encampments throughout the County.
Annette Warren - Gypsy & Traveller Liaison Officer
Annette was appointed to the role of Notts. Gypsy and Traveller Liaison Officer in March 2008. She previously spent an intensive eighteen months supporting and working with the Travelling Community in Newark and Sherwood District. Annette has a background working with other minority vulnerable groups including homeless young people, drug users, care leavers and teenage parents starting out to live on their own.
